‘Stop the Massacre of Palestinians’ Day of Action on January 1, 2009
Emergency Demonstrations Scheduled In Kansas City
Kansas City, MO. Dec. 30, 2008 – MAS Freedom (MASKANSASCITY.org), as the civic and human rights advocacy entity of the Muslim American Society (MAS), and Citizens for justice in the Middle East (CJME.org) are calling for 'Stop the Massacre of Palestinians' Day of Action demonstrations in Kansas City, together with AMP American Muslim for Palestine, local area Islamic Centers and organizations, in a show of solidarity with the people of Gaza.
Day of Action demonstrations are being organized in Kansas City to demand an immediate end to the mass killing that began Saturday when Israeli warplanes and helicopters pounded the region killing and wounding hundreds, including women and children. Reports described it as one of the bloodiest days in the history of the Palestinian conflict with Israel. The U.S.-backed Israeli Occupation Force destroyed every security station in Gaza. AFP reported: "There was no space left in the morgue and bodies were piled up in the emergency room and in the corridors, as many of the wounded screamed in pain."
WHO: "Stop the Massacre of Palestinians" Day of Action Coalition
WHAT: National Day of Action
WHEN: Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 2:00 PM
WHERE: Country Club Plaza Fountain Park. 47th and Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri
"This escalation of violence is taking the form of wholesale warfare against the civilian population, using weapons that are, in part, supplied by the United States to Israel in clear violation of the U.S. Arms Control Export Act, stated MAS Freedom Civil and Human Rights Director, Ibrahim Abdil-Mu'id Ramey.
Ramey added, "MAS Freedom is also calling on the U.S. government to respect our nation's own laws, and to prohibit the export of helicopter gunships, anti-personnel weapons, and other lethal devices that are typically used by the Israeli military to attack and wound Palestinians, both in Gaza and the West Bank. This export of armaments to Israel is both illegal and immoral and it must end."
Because of the U.S.-backed Israeli blockade and strangulation of the people of Gaza for the past 18 months there is little or no medicine to treat the wounded, electricity for hospitals, or food or clean water for much of the population.
If you cannot attend a demonstration, you can join the national and global demand for an end to U.S. aid to Israel by sending a letter to the U.S. State Department and Congress.
This is an urgent situation and we must all act now. MAS Freedom (Kansas City) and Citizens for Justice in the Middle East call for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire on both sides in order to stop the bloodshed and killing.
Without U.S. aid, the Israeli military attacks, siege and blockade of Gaza could not be continued. It has been reported that an Israeli military spokesperson said, "The operation is 'only just beginning'."
